Every year the IBAO hosts an event at Queen’s Park pairing brokers with legislators to discuss issues important to both brokers and consumers. This year was, of course, a little different.

Over the course of a week, we organized over 40 broker meetings with MPPs and Ministers, often getting brokers from their specific constituencies to speak directly to issues facing their communities. Our first port of call is to thank the Government and all MPP’s for their hard work during the pandemic.

This year’s message focuses on how brokers have been supporting their communities through the pandemic and through the challenging insurance market. We specifically mention our political advocacy efforts in regard to condominium, hospitality, snow removal (Bill 118) and trucking insurance coverage.

Notable Ministers that participated included Rod Phillips, Minister of Finance; Jeff Yurek, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks; Lisa Thompson, Minister of Government and Consumer Services; and Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure. Some participating MPPs had previously spoken with us for TOB including former broker MPP Nina Tangri, PA to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade; and MPP Stan Cho, PA to the Minister of Finance and many others had participated in our 100th Anniversary Celebration video.

“Over the years, our efforts with these meetings have increased MPP recognition of the broker channel significantly,” said IBAO CEO Colin Simpson. “They understand and appreciate the key role brokers play within the industry and specifically on behalf of their clients and within their communities.”
