The talent gap is one of the most significant issues facing the insurance industry. In response, the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) has launched a dedicated job board, OntarioBrokerJobs.ca, to attract new talent to the channel.

In a recent survey, IBAO Members indicated that recruitment was a pressing issue they face. 73% of respondents reported it as a significant or very significant issue, with managers and owners assigning higher significance compared to other roles within a brokerage.

“A generation of brokers is quickly reaching retirement age,” said IBAO President Joseph Carnevale. “It’s creating a lot of opportunity for ambitious newcomers to join the channel. Contemporary talent is in high demand.”

IBAO partnered with InsuranceWorks.ca to create a job board dedicated entirely to the broker channel, including a new brand and information on career paths and opportunities. IBAO Member Brokerages receive a number of free job postings based on the size of their brokerage, with promotion on both OntarioBrokerJobs.ca and InsuranceWorks.ca, within Insurance Works’ newsletter and through their LinkedIn network.

OntarioBrokerJobs.ca is part of IBAO’s multipronged effort to drive recruitment.

“We’ve launched a number of initiatives to promote the broker channel as a rewarding career path, partnering with people who want to participate in helping shape its future,” said IBAO COO Brett Boadway. “We recently announced our mentorship program with Humber College’s Insurance Management Program. We’ve also deployed a targeted social media campaign—#YouShouldTotallyBecomeABroker—to drive messaging and marketing behind this initiative.”
