IBAO RIBO Level 1 Exam Sponsorship

Sponsored Broker Launchpad Textbook (Becoming an Insurance Broker)

  • What’s the difference between hardcopy textbook and eBook?

Hardcopy textbook is the paper textbook that is shipped through FedEx. A Canadian shipping address is required to receive the textbook. Once shipped, the tracking link is emailed.

eBook is the digital version that works through a Kortext App. You can view the textbook in the Kortex app on your tablet, smartphone, eReader or computer. It allows you to make notes, highlight text, change font, font size and paper colour, so you can customize it to exactly how you like to read. You’ll be required to sign up for a free account with Kortext, but the textbook will be yours as long as your account is valid.

  • Is the eBook accessible offline?

If you download the Kortext App, you can view and have full functionality of your eBook offline. If you’re viewing the eBook through a web browser, you’ll need to be online.

  • Can I print my eBook?

No – the eBook is only available digitally.

Sponsored RIBO Level 1 Online Exam

  • How do I apply to write my sponsored exam?

    • If you are approved for the RIBO Level 1 “Acting Under Supervision” Exam by your program coordinator, you will be contacted by IBAO to confirm the assigned exam date. IBAO will work with your program coordinator to ensure that you are in fact a student actively registered in the insurance program with the College.
    • Once you are confirmed, you will be registered for the exam. An email with a unique link to schedule your exam time and proctor will be sent to you.

  • Can I select my sponsored exam date?

No, the exam date is arranged between your program coordinator and IBAO based on your insurance program schedule. We work with your College to find an exam date that does not conflict with your other program exams.

Sponsorship Value & Rules

  • Sponsorship Value

Students are provided with all complementary materials, however fees are applicable, if:

    • The student provides an incorrect textbook shipping address or the textbook is lost due to no fault of the IBAO. A $50.00 re-shipping fee in addition to the cost of the textbook ($235.00) will be charged.
    • The student withdraws from the exam and provides cancellation notice in 15 days or less to the exam date. A $75 administration fee will be charged.
    • The student withdraws from the exam, but does not cancel their online proctor appointment prior to 24 hours of their exam. A $40 online proctor fee will be charged.
    • The student breaches an examination rule. IBAO will review and assess the student’s sponsorship eligibility.

  • Applicable Rules

    • Students must book their online proctor and exam time at least 5 calendar days prior to the exam date.
    • If the student misses their scheduled exam date and do not give notice, IBAO will assess the circumstances and determine if they are still eligible for their second sponsored exam.
