The Broker’s Role in the Claims Process

Course Description

The Broker’s role in the claims process is not only to advise the client on reporting procedures but to also advocate for the client if the claim handling is not meeting the client’s needs.

While the Broker can never become a claim handler, it is entirely acceptable to research the situation and offer persuasive alternatives to the Insurer.

By completing this course, you will have a better knowledge of the claims process and therefore be able to better counsel, advise and advocate for your clients more effectively.

Along with the claims process, you will also hear about the stages of litigation and how liability claims are settled.

Course Objectives include:
1. Describe how claims are assigned.
2. Describe how coverage or denial decisions are made.
3. Describe how first party claims are assessed.
4. Articulate what a claims reserve is.
5. Recognize the stages of litigation.

Recommended for: Brokers who want to learn more about the claims process and how to assist policyholders.
