Format Online

This one-hour course is comprised of two 30-minute courses facilitated by the Canadian Association of Black Insurance Professionals (CABIP). This course is comprised of two parts to help you get started in familiarizing yourself with what diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is and how it is related to your workplace.

Course #1:

Introduction to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – Getting Started

Description

The first part in this two-part series is focused on building a background and an awareness of what Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is, and why it should matter to brokers, and our industry.

In 2022 it is not enough to hear about this on the nightly news, rather, it is an issue businesses must enroll with their clients and employees. Action is required to move us forward to change. By building awareness of the systemic barriers that continue to create inequities within organizations, brokers will be better positioned to appreciate others on their terms and strive for positive impact with all those they work with.

This course will provide an introduction to DEI principles and why they are vitally important for brokers to appreciate the impact it can have on their business.

Course #2:

Unconscious Bias and its  Impact  to Customer Service

Description

This is the second session in the two-part Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion series. This session is focused on unconscious biases and how these behaviours and related structures  can negatively impact the customer service experience.

This session aims to introduce what unconscious bias is, why it matters to businesses, and provide actionable steps for brokers to start thinking about and addressing their own unconscious biases in the workplace.
