  Designation/Certificate Programs  
 

IBAO encourages licensed (Level I or II) insurance brokers to give their career a solid boost by acquiring one or more of the nationally recognized professional designations available to them. The designations are awarded upon successful completion of professional development programs specifically designed, written, and delivered by Canadian insurance brokers. They form the bulk of the career education path developed and recommended by IBAO. Obtaining one or more professional designations can increase your opportunities for advancement and income growth.

The following is a list of our educational career path courses:

Licensing, Certificate & Designation Programs
Basic Broker Preparation Course RIBO Level I
The Basic Broker Preparation Course is an intensive two-week course that helps participants prepare for the RIBO Level I examination.  It is designed for those requiring a comprehensive understanding of the insurance broker business.  It covers the basic skill requirements established by RIBO for Level I (under supervision) Licensing.

Customer Service for the Insurance Professional (CSIP)
Customer Service for the Insurance Professional is a four-part certificate program dealing with the critical services role of the Customer Service Representative.  It is offered in both a facilitated and self study format. There are no exams to write.  Students work through the program at their own pace with the assistance of a mentor (manager, owner) within their brokerage office.

Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker Designation Program (CAIB)
The Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker, is a four-semester group or self-study program that will enhance your technical knowledge, general business competency and professionalism.

Advanced Broker Preparation Course RIBO Level II
The Advanced Broker Preparation Course is a two week course that helps participants prepare for the RIBO Level II (unrestricted) Licensing examinations.  One week is dedicated to the requirements established by RIBO in the Standards for Management Skills.  The second week is dedicated to the requirements established by RIBO in the Standard for Technical Skills.  These courses are meant to be a preparatory course that gives participants the groundwork for continued study prior to writing the RIBO Level II Licensing Examinations.

Canadian Professional Insurance Broker Designation Program (CPIB)
The Canadian Professional Insurance Broker is the new senior designation program designed by the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada and its provincial/regional Member Associations.  It is specifically designed for property casualty insurance brokers.  The program has three distinct streams: Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, and Broker Management.  Brokers must complete three mandatory insurance courses and three elective business courses within their chosen stream.  The CPIB courses are positioned at a college/university level of study.

Canadian Certified Insurance Designation Program (CCIB)
The Canadian Certified Insurance Broker designation is the highest designation awarded by the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada.  There is no formal course of study for the three CCIB examinations.  The examinations test all aspects of property casualty insurance, including the candidate’s ability to do risk management analysis.  The designation is intended to demonstrate the holder’s practical competency gained through experience. 

Best Practices Enhancing Brokerage Performance
This five part certificate program is designed to assist Canadian brokers with the challenging task of comparing their business operations with the operations of the 150 TOP PERFORMING AGENCIES/BROKERAGES in North America.  The purpose of the comparison is to identify NEW APPROACHES to “doing business” that will SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE YOUR PERFORMANCE in the areas of growth, profitability, stability and financial management.
