Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB)

The Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) program, is a four-part national designation program that takes an in-depth look at technical coverages and business management strategies in the Canadian insurance marketplace. It deals with three major subject areas: Personal Lines, Commercial Lines and Brokerage Management. Completing the CAIB designation will enhance your technical knowledge, general business competency and professionalism. You will immediately transfer your newly learned knowledge and skills to your work in the brokerage.

The program is broken down into four main parts  (CAIB 1, CAIB 2, CAIB 3, CAIB 4) that can be taken in any order, however, we recommend students commence with CAIB 1. Watch the video or read the CAIB Brochure for more information.

CAIB Programs offered by the IBAO School of Insurance are open to IBAO Members and non-members.

CAIB is offered in three study formats -Self Study, Group Discussion and Immersion. Semesters begin in January, May and September each year, and Immersion courses are scheduled five times a year. In all formats, the course text and study guide are mailed to each registrant 2-3 weeks after their registration is processed.

  • Self-Study
The self-study format is offered to students who prefer the independence of self-guided studies.  All CAIB Self-Study students have access to a Self-Study Advisor who provides guidance on questions, problems or difficult concepts from the course material. Enrollment in a Self-Study program automatically enrolls a student for the examination at the end of that semester, written locally, based on the affiliate area registered in.  Requests to transfer to another exam will be subject to a Transfer fee.

  • Group Discussion (Online or In-Class)
Discussion groups emphasize active participation and are a forum for the sharing of ideas. An experienced broker, acting as a discussion leader, guides the group. Classes are approximately 1-2 hours long, and are held once a week for the duration of the term.

This program is offered for all semesters in the Online format.  Special requests to run In-Class groups will be considered for groups with a minimum of six registrants. Class times and locations are confirmed and published two weeks before the start of the semester.  Enrollment in a Discussion Group automatically enrolls a student for the examination at the end of that semester, written locally, based on the affiliate area registered in.  Requests to transfer to another exam will be subject to a Transfer fee.
