Ontario Broker Association Launches Free Roadshow Education Events for Members

Posted by IBAO

The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) will be hosting over 50 roadshow education events in 26 locations across Ontario to educate brokers on the newly amended automobile insurance regulations. There will be no cost for association members.

The new automobile insurance regulations were announced on Tuesday and will take effect on September 1, 2010. These reforms are the result of the Five Year Review of Automobile Insurance, commissioned by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO). IBAO applauds the government’s mandate to provide better protection for consumers.

“We are very pleased with the amendments,” stated IBAO CEO Randy Carroll. “Ontario brokers are committed to informing and protecting their consumers. IBAO is also dedicated to the broker community and we are thrilled to announce the roadshow education events as a way to connect with local brokers and inform them of all the modifications.”

The roadshow educations events will begin in April and will focus on specific changes of the proposed reforms, best practices for brokers, legal and professional obligations of brokers and a preview of some of the tools the association will be developing for members to use when informing their customers.

Hi Victoria.

I do not believe that coverage will be changed mid-term.  They can only be changed at renewal.

Victoria & Mario,

Thanks for taking the time to post.  Mario you are correct,  coverage will not change mid-term.  The limits will be reduced to the new standard as they renew. There are lots of changes taking place.  The specifics of the changes and also the best practices brokers can employ for a smooth transition will be the topic of our 3 hour FREE sessions.

I strongly encourage you and your colleagues to attend any of the 4 Free sessions taking place in Toronto, or any other 50 sessions taking place across Ontario.  Nice to see both of you in the digital space, but also looking forward to seeing you in person at the sessions.

Curious will you be having Webinar's of the Roadshow as opposed to having entire staff's attending offsite?

Hi Joanne,

We will be offering a Webinar component to the Roadshow, but most likely not until later in the tour. We do not have dates set for this as yet.

I just received the update for the Territory 2 convention.  Does this mean that you will be cancelling the Sudbury presentation of the auto reforms?

Thanks.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for your question. No we will still be in Sudbury on April 28. The email was regarding the Territory 2 Convention in North Bay, and revisions to their schedule to accommodate the roadshow dates in North Bay - April 29. Here is a link to the web version of that email update http://bit.ly/aAKvvJ.

Are the sessions RIBO accredited?  If so, how many hours?

Hi Jenny,

Great question. Yes the roadshow auto reform sessions will be RIBO accredited by 3 hours for members and 2 hours for non-members. Hope that helps.

Samantha
