Car Seat Safety- Strong Reminder for Ontario Parents

Posted by IBAO

Did you know that 80% of all car seats are installed incorrectly? It is terrifying to think that the majority of infants riding around in most vehicles are not safely secure. Traffic accidents remain to be the number one killer for Canadian children and teens. By following the tips below you can help prevent unnecessary tragedy.

One of the most common mistakes is that the infant seat itself and/ or the base of the seat is not sufficiently secured.

To prevent a tragic situation, IBAO wants to remind Ontario consumers about the simple steps they can take to ensure their child’s safety.

   • Read the manufacturers manual, page by page. Make sure not to skim through the manual. Important information lies in every sentence!
   • Stop by your local police station, many of which offer free car seat clinics and inspections.
   • Always ensure all buckles are fastened and that your tiny tot is secure in the seat.

Taking these simple steps will ensure your child’s safety while riding in the family car.

IBAO also suggests visiting Transport Canada’s website for more tips and information regarding child seat safety http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/mediaroom/releases-2010-h012e-5820.htm.
